Oasis Of The Seas Heading To Europe In October 2014
The Oasis will do a transatlantic in October 2014, and do a series of Europe cruises prior to entering Keppel Verolme shipyard in Rotterdam for a refurbishment. Once the shipyard time is finished the Oasis may do a few more Europe cruises - perhaps from Barcelona - and likely return to Port Everglades. No word on which ship will take over the Sunday to Sunday Caribbean cruises done by Oasis, especially since the rumors are strong the Quantum Of The Seas will be headed to Port Liberty New Jersey.
The problem is only certain Caribbean ports can handle the Oasis class ships, since they have to dock and cannot tender guests ashore. Since the Oasis and Allure sail full each week, I'll be interested to see what they do to handle the drop in capacity.
When Royal Caribbean made a 10 year lease agreement with Falmouth, it was based on RCI bringing in a set number of people a month. It will be interesting what will fill that gap?
It sure seems to me to be awful quick that Oasis is being refurbished-she can't be much more than 5-8 years old, can she? What will they possibly need to do to her, other than add more things to do upon her?
Just a refreshing. New carpets, drapes, replace some furnishings. Maybe install new bar tops and other things they can't easily do with people aboard. They'll also likely do tear downs of the diesels to inspect them and do preventive maintenance such as new pistons, injectors, etc.
