My first upgrade!

So I'm sitting here finishing up on the pre-cruise packing and the phone rings. It is Royal Caribbean calling and my first thought is 'oh no, something has happened about the cruise'. Well, yes but in a very good way. They said they were offering me a free upgrade to a Grand Suite and asked if I would be interested. Um, let me think about that for maybe a half-second. I'll take it! Had three suites to choose from. This will be our first cruise as Diamond Plus members and they are making it memorable already.

We do have to pay the increased gratuities for a suite, but who cares?

Dave,
Oh, how "sweet" is that (no pun intended !) I have yet to get one and always hope for a surprise. Enjoy the heck out of that ! I know how excited you are...when do you leave and where are you going ? I am going to pack Saturday, I think I have it down pretty good :OD This is an easy one anyhow...no flying and I like that too !

Sonny has told me before about his getting calls offering upgrades and I figured it'd never happen to me. And it was funny that she said 'would you be interested in doing this?' which I guess is just standard procedure. She did say it meant we'd have to pay the suite gratuities, which for the three of us is just another $6.75 per day. We usually give more anyway so that was not a problem.

We booked a junior suite, so I guess there was a ripple effect going on this afternoon with many happy people being moved to a truly larger cabin.

They probably needed that Jr Suite.

I was looking at "another cruise website" and other people on this cruise were keeping track of open cabins. A couple days ago they said there were still some of the big time suites (Crown Loft and others) open, and GS was still showing as a guarantee. Not sure where they get their information.

I know Super Mario prefers a JS and likely gets his way if they can arrange it, but he is on Allure this Sunday and not Oasis.

That's fantastic! I've gotten upsells to suites, but never an upgrade. Enjoy!

Wow! Congratulations, Dave. I sure hope that I get one of those calls before my Allure cruise on Sunday, but fat chance of that happening.

Actually, I was pondering the situation and it is possible that someone would turn down the upgrade if they had other friends/family on board with cabins nearby their assigned cabin. Personally, I would choose the Grand Suite over family any day, but that's just me!

For example, on Sunday, my wife and I have a balcony stateroom and my daughters/niece are across the hall in a boardwalk stateroom. There is 0% chance that my wife would move anywhere that is not within 100 feet of them. I think that I would go ahead and accept it and just not tell her!

Again, congratulations and have a great trip!

Brad

Thanks! We head out to the airport later this morning. Thankfully the tropical storm is moving away from Florida and all of our airports show green on the flight status site.

Off to the western Caribbean!

Great! I was wondering if the storm would interfere with our flight tomorrow morning from New Orleans to Ft. Lauderdale. I sure hope not...but of course, that's why we always fly in the day before.

Bon Voyage, Dave! I sure hope you have a great trip.

Take care,

Brad
