Royal Caribbean Issues Statement About Woman's Day Article

Woman's Day magazine recently published a laughably incompetent article about '10 things your travel agent won't tell you' which has led many of it's readers to wonder if the author bothered to do any research, or even talked to any agents. I am not going to link to it but you can easily find it on your own. In essence the article makes travel agents out to be money-grubbing liars who willfully mislead clients just to close a sale, and as wealthy people raking in fortunes from commissions. Those of us who know something about the travel business also know the article's assertions are completely baseless and about as far from the truth as it can be.

Royal Caribbean has been the first cruise line to respond to allegations in the article by issuing the following statement:

"In response to the recent WomansDay.com article, Azamara Club Cruises, Celebrity Cruises, and Royal Caribbean International strongly value the travel agent community. We sincerely appreciate travel agents for the important role that they play in creating memorable experiences and the greater value they bring to vacationers through their training, expertise, and in-depth knowledge of the travel industry. We remain committed to the travel agent community and will continue to support them in the promotion of the value of cruise vacations and growing their businesses."

I haven't bought a Woman's Day in years, but I wonder if Royal Caribbean ever advertises in them? Something for any travel supplier to think about if they are advertising in this magazine.

And to be sure, Woman's Day is all about the advertising. A copy shows up here now and then and I swear at least half of the pages are ads. The 'articles' are like an afterthought. No wonder they sell it so cheap.
