Dining alfresco on your balcony to a caribbean sunrise is also a great way to start a day! Just order your breakfast the night before and room service will deliver it to you at the time you desire. We try to do this at least once on a cruise.we're cruising on Freedom in eleven days and the excitement is really starting to build!
Denny,
I am with you breakfast on the balcony is a treat, and the only time I eat in the Dining is the last morning (no other choice) but I do enjoy it.

MCPayne - The Windjammer on the Enchantment offers great panoramic views of the sea ahead (Unless you're in port, of course) and is a great way to start the day. Since the dining room is also gorgeous the only answer can be --Do Both!!! (i.e.-Take Sonny's advice!)
Then too - If you have a balcony - pay attention to Denny C and queenof cruzin - dining anytime on the balcony is a first class way to go!!
We do both, depending on what is planned for the day. If we have an excursion, we'll do the buffet. If we're at sea, we'll do the dining room or the buffet depending on our moods.
Thanks everyone. I was actually thinking about Sonny's advice, and maybe doing one day in the dining room, and the next day at the Windjammer for breakfast. It looks like for the most part lunch is mainly in the Windjammer according to a relatively recent cruise compass I found online. On the sea days, they may do lunch in the dining room, but on the days in port, it looks like they only do lunch in the Windjammer.

The dining room is always open for lunch on the sea days, although the menu never impresses me since it never changes.
The dining room is a good breakfast choice on days with an early port arrival since the Windjammer can be a mad house on those days. I've said it before here - you can get in, eat, and get out of the dining room faster than the buffet on some days.
One more question regarding the dining room, this time for dinner. I saw on a recent cruise compass that dining room table assignments are done that first day from noon - 3:30. My recollection when I did my last cruise on the Majesty was that my table was already assigned when I checked in at the pier. Is this a new process on all RCI ships? If so, how does it work?

That is for those who wish to change their dining time or table assignment from what they were assigned. If you are happy with the assignment you got when you checked in, then you don't have to do anything. I drift into the dining room on embarkation day to scope out my table number and location. If it doesn't suit me I'll go to the queue and see about changing it.
Since I can remember the tables were always assigned prior to boarding. Your table number is printed on your seapass card. I always find my table when I board to make sure every is fine. If not, I get in line to make the necessary changes.
