Smile Where to sail next?
We took a Western Caribbean cruise on Navigator of the Seas in February,2013, (Cozumel, Jamaica and Grand Cayman) and we will be taking a 10 day Eastern Caribbean cruise on the Explorer of the Seas in December (Labadee, Puerto Rico, St. Maartin and St. Thomas).

Does anyone have any suggestions where we should cruise in 2014? I want a cruise that is at least 9 days and hopefully longer. I am considering Bermuda, the Panama Canal and Hawaii. I would like to stay with Royal Caribbean but it appears that their Hawaii cruises are one way and I would like roundtrip from San Francisco.

Suggestions most appreciated.

Hawaii cruises from the mainland are relatively rare, and as you note RCI does them as part of a repositioning from Alaska to Australia.

Round trip from the same mainland port can't be done because of the Passenger Vessel Services Act, and given the distance involved the ship can't stop at a foreign port unless it becomes a much longer cruise. Thus you will see Princess has a few Hawaii cruises that depart from San Francisco but end in Ensenada, Mexico, to comply with the law. Years ago, when Norwegian first started their cruises that sail around Hawaii, they had to take a long diversion to the Republic Of Kiribati on each cruise since it was the nearest 'foreign' port. When the line succeeded in getting Congressional relief and U.S. flagged their ships, they no longer needed a foreign port.

RCI does have an interesting 10-night cruise to Bermuda next year on Vision Of The Seas. It is round trip from Port Everglades and stops at Bermuda, Nassau, and Coco Cay. They are doing it three times - June 9, August 18, and September 1.

Have you considered a southern Caribbean itinerary? Leave from San Juan and usually hit ports like Barbados, st. Lucia, curaçao, st kitts of Aruba .

Thumbs up Where?
Along the lines that poormom said, Brilliance OTS repositions from Boston, Mass to Tampa, Fla, and is a 13 days cruise that goes to St. Kitts, St. Lucia, Barbados, Curacau and Aruba. I believe it will be from October 26, 2014 to November 8, 2014. Just got off her this year and the cruise was wonderful; there were a few people who needed manners lessons, but the ship is great, crew nice and helpful and the food was above great! Brilliance is a Radience class ship, slightly smaller than Explorer or Voyager or Mariner, etc. It does not have a Royal Prominaid, but she is very nice.

Need some cruise help?

We really enjoy the southern cruises. We are also looking forward to going through the Panama Canal in March. We have cruised into Gatun Lake and back, but will do the total transit this time.

There are so many neat places to cruise that you can't go wrong!

All I know is that I'll be on the Explorer with you in December.
