Unhappy Propulsion Problems with the Allure???
Recent news reports indicate that the Allure of the Seas is experiencing some propulsion problems that may be sending her into drydock in place of the Oasis in 2014. Her cruise speed has been lowered resulting in shorter port times and cancellation of some tours. Having three propulsion units rather than two has alleviated the problem somewhat but Royal Caribbean is considering sending the Allure of the Seas into drydock much earlier than her scheduled 2015 overhaul!!

The port issues are affecting the eastern Caribbean runs but not the western itinerary. I think they will go forward with changing the ships and send Allure to Europe first, instead of Oasis. There are no shipyards other than Newport News that have a drydock large enough for these ships, so going to Europe is the only option for repairs. Newport News keeps their large drydocks full of aircraft carriers - either those undergoing refits or the new Gerald Ford class carriers.

Just learned the February 23, 2014 sailing on the Allure is cancelled. Norwegian Cruise Line is offering those displaced to come over and book on the brand new Norwegian Getaway for an Eastern Caribbean on February 22, 2014, or the Norwegian Epic Western Caribbean.

RCI has announced that the Allure will be moved to a shipyard in Freeport that week for repairs. Apparently the problem is the bearings in one azipod are experiencing accelerated wear which is why they can't run it at full power.

I just found this great link about the repair. They don't need a drydock. They can get inside the azipod from the ship to do the repair. It just needs a shipyard to do the repairs.
