Default Royal Caribbean Makes Changes To Drink Packages
And surprise, these changes improve the program! Packages no longer have to be purchased by everyone 21 or over in the same cabin. They have also expanded the program to four plans with more things included in the upper tier plans.

I just could not see the value in any of the packages although we do enjoy our cocktails and beer while around the pool during some of the days at sea, and wines with dinner in the evening.

The packages seemed to be popular on the Oasis this past June. You'd think the bar staff wouldn't care for them but the bartenders I talked to said they liked the packages because they were still getting the tip money and didn't have as many of the annoying paper receipts to deal with.

Value-wise, yes, you have to be a committed drinker for the higher priced plans. The best thing they are doing is eliminating the 'everyone has to buy it' requirement.

These new rules are not in effect yet but will be this weekend from what I read. I found out about this on the Royal Caribbean UK website, but that info said it was going fleetwide and even had the age rules for U.S. sailings. As is often the case, RCI rolls things out on the UK site before it shows up on the U.S. website. Strange.

Yes, you can get wine by the glass in the dining room with a drink package. Drink packages are good in the dining room, on the private islands, and at all bars. However they are not usable for ordering drinks via room service.

RCI does not place limits on their drink packages as Carnival does. You can get beer with a drink package in the dining room.

RCI will scan your card even if you have a package sticker on the card. They do this to record how much liquor or beer they are using for inventory purposes.
