Look at the cruiseline websites and check out the shore excursions, and also some independents line Shoretrips.com. We picked out first itinery as a family based on what we like to do--the cruiseline and ship just sort of followed the idea of "where do we want to go". We have been discouraged at trying lines other than RCCL (my TA says that we will not enjoy the demographic on Carnival and also found the ships to be less well insulated), and my parents who are well into their 80s love Princess which gave me pause--what they value in a vacation is not what I am after. Now we are in an RCCL rut, afraid to try other lines in case (now this will sound really stupid--like going to the Caribbean on a cruise is ever a waste?) it isn't as good as what we are used to.

Happy Sailing no matter which ship you choose...
A bad cruise is much better than a good day at the office....but after 21 cruises, I've never really had a BAD one.....:-)....Enjoy...

I'm actually taking a cruise with both my parents to celebrate my mom's 60th and my 30th birthday. Just an opinion but based on the research I've done, I felt that RCI offered the best mix of some really good fun for me, while still offering enough for my ageing parents. Cruising is honestly the best-family-vacation ever because people can easily get together but also spend time apart. Not always as easy to do in more traditional (hotel/car rental) travel. It's the only time I don't want to divorce them by the end of the vacation

Only been on RCCL so can't compare for you Cruzsnob, but you are right on the money in that RCCL will have something for every age group.
