I thought I heard that all the water on the ship was filtered water. If that is the case why would anyone need to bring any water on board?

Actually is is more than just filtered. They distill drinking water from the sea water and then purify the result. This manufactured water is as pure or maybe more pure than any bottled water.

Why do people bring water on board? Because they have no understanding of the above concept. We actually bring a bottle or two (big ones) so that we can refill them and have water to take off the ship in port, but only because they charge a lot for a bottle of water on the way off the ship....

I would have no problem using the ships water (it sounds as if it's very pure and safe). We would, however, want to take bottles off the boat with us on excursions. I hate to take up luggage space by packing 6 reusable/refillable water bottles, is it possible to purchase these on most ships? And then fill them with water (lemonade/tea/etc.)?

It sure is, they have all kids of water bottles in the shops or you can buy a bottle of water and just keep the bottle. We buy the water, but there are scads of different type containers in the store

We bought bottles with carrying cases from a sporting goods store. They don't take a lot of space in our luggage. We fill them with ice and water from the Lido to carry with us both on and off the ship. We also use them at home for hiking or just for trips around town...
