new to cruising

hi, i am going on voyager of the seas in May and it is my first cruise, people have been telling me that alcohol and beverages on board are very expensive, is this true?? i have seen on the website about wine and beverage packages does anybody know anything about these? are they worth it?

The alcohol is VERY expensive on the boat. Mixed drinks usually cost between $8-$10 for one and beer costs $5-$7. We have not ever done a package. Most packages are usually expensive as well and you don't get much for the money. We'll usually have drinks when we stop in port.

Hi susnd66, welcome to Cruise-Chat! The drinks are no more expensive than going to a nice club or restaurant. Normal mixed drinks run from $5-$7, call liquors are more. Beer $3 and up. Wine $6 and up. They do have specials like bucket 'o beer, buy 4 get 5, wine by the bottle (which you can recork and take to your room or have for your dinner the next evening), etc. Not buying the drinks in the souvineer glasses will save you money, too.
