Miami Hotels

We are taking our first family cruise on the Radiance of the Seas - leaving Miami on January 2nd. As we are travelling with 2 young children, we are planning on arriving in Miami a day early. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to stay - or even area to stay (i.e. South Beach, Downtown Miami, etc). We are looking for a safe area that is relatively close to the port.

My wife and I always stay close to south beach, but not in it. "It is a fun place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there"

We like the Crowne Plaza Hotel as you can walk every where from there, yet it is still pretty reasonable.
