Renting a car

Is there a place where we can rent a car for the day near the port on St. Thomas?

Yes, Budget is on the opposite side of Havensight Mall on the street between The Guardian Building and Al Cohen Centre. There are other car rentals in the area. Havensight is where the ship docks.
Keep in mind that the traffic is horrendous. Driving is on the left and roads are narrow, winding, and lots of potholes.

Traffic is the reason I no longer like St Thomas at all, and escape to St John for the day. A couple of bad experiences for me, almost missing the ship due to traffic congestion. Sonny gives good information.

My DH's first choice would be to travel to St. John and spend the day on Trunk Beach but I'm afraid we won't make it back to the ship in time due to the traffic, taxis, ferry, etc. If we decide to head to St. John, how much time should we give ourselves for the return trip back to the ship.

We spend a week on St. Thomas with a couple of nights on St. John and love the island of St. John, I'm just a little nervous about missing the ship. Sonny, thanks for the heads up but we have rented a car during this trip from the airport and know what the traffic and roads are like.

At least 2 hours....but that is only my humble opinion.

I can see myself in the open air bus ride from Havensight to Megans Bay on that winding road up and down, round and round...The drivers are crazy on St Thomas ! I'd never rent a car there.

Ferries operate hourly between St. Thomas and St. John from Red Hook and Charlotte Amalie. You could walk from Charlotte Amalie to the ship if you had to.
