You are exactly right. We were always early to the drills for years, and ended up being punished for it by being in the back, no air, heat, crushed against the crowd, spending twice as much time wearing the vest as the others, etc. Meanwhile the late arrivals skated, paid no attention anyway, and were often the first ones to remove their life jackets even though the "word" hadn't been passed to do so - and nobody ever challenged them. So it now depends on the cruise line for us. If they are the regimented type, we sit in the cabin and wait until the alarm sounds before leaving.
Thanks everyone. I guess I can see the storage issue space at the muster stations being an issue. I remember on my last cruise on embarkation day, on the video, they stated that if an emergency arose, if you're not in your stateroom when you hear the alarm, go directly to your muster station, and a life vest will be provided.
I remember also for my last cruise, I went a little early to the drill, as did most people, and I think I was in the middle of the pack.

Cool!
Those life vests are stinky anyway. On the serious side, I hope they continue to do a demonstration during the muster drill.

Princess has the muster down and I don't understand why other lines don't do it. You muster in a lounge or a public area. You carry your life vest with you. Only after you are instructed to do so, do you put them on. Then you take your life vests back to your cabin. Those that come late, usually end up standing. Those that go early, have seats.
Dave,
Once again I agree with you, I used to go early and was crushed, now I wait for the alarm too, but the cruise line has shortened their drills, didn't chek us in on the last two, and no mention was made. I have to say, although folks complain, the short time it takes for the proper drill makes me feel better. It just hit me, that on our next cruise, our Mothers have a seperate cabin, on a seperate deck, this is something I must review after boarding. Thanks for the heads up CC crew !

Talking about muster stations; I don't remember the muster station being on the cruise pass and if its not on that, I for one would not remember my muster station unless it was printed in permanent marker on my body..
