What the cruise lines should probably say is, "This is what we call it, but we'll take you no matter how you dress anyway."

Ajmaniac, what you could do for packing is take one pair of dress slacks or a skirt and a few tops to mix/match with, then one "formal" dress. I say "formal" because lately it seems like it's anything but formal. I still enjoy getting dressed up for dinner. Then take one pair of dress shoes that will match everything with a purse that matches the shoes. Take one pair of water shoes and wear your tennis shoes on board. Take 2 swim suits, wear one while one is drying. Then your underwear, and a pair of shorts with a couple of t-shirts to put over your swimsuit or a swimsuit cover. Your sunscreen, sunglasses, and a water proof pouch for your driver's license and cruise card when you go on shore. And you're all set!

That is excellent advice Penny. I think you have done this before. I will definitely pack lighter this time around. I'm now a little nervous about flying. This is not a ship question, but maybe you can help me. I use Oil of Olay night and day cream. Can I put those in my checked luggage? I have all my gels, lotions, and creams in a ziplock bag as required. Who knows if they will take those too? There are lots of new regulations and I have not flown in a while. Thanks for your help Penny, Norma

Thank you Michael. You are exactly right. If I had used my noodle I would have checked RC before asking the question. If you go to their site it tells you what to expect depending on the number of days for your cruise. For four days it is one formal and the rest casual. Thanks again for your advice. Norma

No problem. Happy to help. If the cream is in your checked luggage I think you'll be fine. For my 5 night cruise on the Enchantment in September I'm going to try and pack light and just try to "mix and match" while I'm away. I figure 2 pairs of shorts, 2 t-shirts, 2 pairs of khakis, 2 semi-formal button downs, 1 nice dress shirt, 1 pair of dress slacks, sport coat, tie, and 2 swim suits.

One thing I forgot to mention regarding your lotions and creams. If you go here it will tell you the rules on liquids and gels in carry on luggage.

Thank you Michael. I have one more question. I usually dose out our medications in a weekly pill box. Should I do that and put them in a bag or leave them in their bottle? I would rather not take the whole prescription. I also take our label with each med telling what it is and who prescribed it. I appreciate your help so much.

TSA doesn't really care about medication packaging. All they care about is making sure nothing that can harm the airplane or passengers gets aboard.

Strictly speaking, Customs could make an issue out of it if drugs weren't in a prescription bottle but I've never heard of them doing so for cruise passengers.

Medications in the weekly pill box should be fine. As long as you have the prescription label you should be okay.
