We just returned last night from our long awaited cruise on the Liberty. It was a fabulous week. I plan to post a review soon.

My question-
My husband talked me into utilizing the Luggage Valet Program. At $20 pp, we paid a hefty $120 for the six of us. He felt that this would be minimal handling of bulky luggage for the children and less stress at the airport in Miami.

It turns out that he was mostly correct - it was so nice not to have to handle and manage the bags. HOWEVER, one of our bags didn't arrive at our final destination (we had a direct flight). Unfortunately, it was our daughters - she returned to college this morning without her suitcase full of everything she needed.

American Airlines is trying to locate it for us, and I have also contacted Royal Caribbean to let them know. We're not sure where the bag was lost (at the ship, in transport, airport, etc).

Has anyone ever had problems with the Valet Luggage program? Any suggestions on recovering the bag? I'm getting more distraught about this with each hour that passes

Barb, I'm glad you enjoyed your cruise, despite the rocky ending.

I've never heard of problems with the Luggage Valet service, but I've heard of plenty of problems with airlines losing luggage.

Since it's all computerized and coded now, the airline *should* be able to find your daughter's bag. I have relatives whose bags went astray on non-stop flights, sometimes ending up in Saudi Arabia or Chicken, Alaska. If the bag made it into the airline's system, they should be able to locate it. If they have no record of that bag, it's harder to find, obviously, but they'll have folks actually looking in the airport to see if they can find it. Royal Caribbean will be looking in its luggage area, too.

BarbH, glad to hear that you had a great cruise but sorry to hear about the luggage thing. I would think that your luggage would show up and that it may just take a little time. I have used the program once and have not had a problem with the service. I know its easy to say, but don't stress out to much and take away that great cruise feeling, things will turn out OK.

I'd wager that the luggage made it to the airport and that is where it got misdirected.

We also just returned from our cruise and we are missing one suitcase out of four. We did the valet program and its just strange that 3 pieces made it but the one didnt. US airway has no record of it being checked in at San Juan and RC is researching it on their end. Hopefully it will turn up soon.

Hi MaryLou, welcome to Cruise-Chat! Sorry to hear that one suitcase didn't make it home, but it's better that way than not making it to the ship.

I had a suitcase go missing on a direct flight from Dallas/FTW to San Juan and spent the first 3 days of my cruise without my clothes. Turns out my suitcase went to Seattle then Hawaii, then finally caught up to me in St. Thomas. This was long before valet service and I had personally carried it to the airport, checked it in at the counter, watched her tag the suitcase, saw it go out the conveyor belt, but didn't see it again when I landed in San Juan. I know this doesn't help you, but maybe will make you feel a little better

We hope you will continue to post on our board and hope you had a marvelous time, except for the missing suitcase!
