Has anyone done the Tulum Ruins? Opinions??

Curious how much time you spend traveling?? It says the tender to Playa Del Carmen is 45 minutes, but how long is the bus ride to the ruins? And how long actually at the ruins?

When we went in Dec of 04 the bus ride took about 1 hour. They did stop at a shop/rest area for about 15 minutes as well. We had about 2-3 hours as I remember.

The place was not very well maintained. They let everything fall apart.

It was very hot. Interesting but not something that I would have to do again.

My husband and I just returned from the Jan. 30 sailing. We went to the Tulum Ruins tour. If you like ruins and enjoy history, the tour guide was extremly knowledgeable, informative, and humorous. If you don't care much to hear history, you might not enjoy as much.

It took a while to leave the ship, as we were waiting for the ferry to come to pick us up @ the ship. Then there was the ferry ride to Playa del Carmen, then a 15 minute restroom break at a gift shop area, and then a bus ride. Once you arrived at the location, it took a while for a collection of money $2 rountrip/person to ride the tram (save time from walking 900 yards)to the ruins. We were only able to spend 1.5 to 2.0 hrs. at the Tulum ruins. There are some gift areas outside the ruins as well.

If given the opportunity again, we would probably not do this tour, since we spent less time at the ruins, more travel time than expected. It's a good tour, but there is too much travel time involved. Hope this helps.

After a few cruises we feel the same as you do. We found that we were paying $60 plus per person to ride a bus for hours and then look at a water fall, plantation, boat ride etc. The tour would be 2 to 3 hours and only a half hour of actually doing what you wanted.

I know that everything cannot be close to the ship but we just don't feel the tours are worth the cost. One of the biggest rips right now is swimming with the dolphins and the stingrays. Can't believe that people would spend that much money to do that.
