We booked the 5 Night Asian Legacies Cruise leaving May 31 on Legends of the Seas in December. It's for a family reunion and to celebrate my Dad's 80th bday. Last Friday March 5 I received a call from the travel agent saying that the WHOLE cruise has been chartered! RC is offering full refund, or alternate sailing dates. Since everyone already got the flights and booked our holidays at work, we went with another sailing. Originally we had all of our rooms together with room numbers already assigned on deck 6(category K) with one room on deck 7 (category L, with a baby), now RC said the best they could do is to move us all to category I on deck 2 with no guarantee that all rooms would be together. Plus we are only on waitlist for early dining. We have small children who go to bed at 8:30pm so this is horrible. Everyone is quite upset especially my dad... He has never been on deck 2 ever! My questions are:
1) Is it worthwhile to complain before the cruise? Who should we address to?
2) How likely would RC give us better rooms on Deck 6 or 7, even if the rooms are not right next to each other?
3) Did anyone have similar experience and were you successful in getting your rooms upgraded?
4) Any other suggestions of what I should do?
Sorry this happened to you on such short notice. I would have your Travel Agent work on your behalf as best she can, to get you upgraded. If your new sailing has My Time Dining, have your agent see if you can get assigned. You may have to wait for tables and split up, or maybe you could make a reservation each day and be seated together. Depending how many of you there are in your party.
In 2006 we took our children and their spouses on a cruise aboard the Radiance of the Seas. It was a long anticipated cruise and we had a wonderful time. I cannot imagine how devastated we would have been if we had been told, basically at the last minute as you have been, that we couldn't sail on that cruise. I would have been livid and I doubt we would have sailed Royal Caribbean again. This is just such a shame for you and your family.
I hope Royal Caribbean makes things right for you. Offering an alternate sailing would have been ok IF you could have gotten rooms together, main dining, etc. As it is, Royal Caribbean still has their money and you have a cruise that is nothing like you have been planning.
Good luck and I really hope things work out for you and that you have a wonderful cruise with happy memories.
