Hi
I have been on the RCL Explorer in 2002 and have recently been on the Carnival Glory and Destiny. I want to go back to RCL but am not sure what ship to take. I would like a newer ship 2005 or later. I am looking at Western Caribbian. All three ships I have been on have been pretty big. looking for something similar. I am open to trying a smaller ship but they all seem to be older ones. any suggestions would be appreciated.

Given your criteria, the only choices will be the Freedom, Liberty, or Oasis Of The Seas.

Have you tried Princess? They have the Ruby and Emerald that are new and big. Haven't checked their routes for next year, but I'll bet they'll do a Western. Sorry, Sonny http://cruise-chat.com/groupee_commo...on_biggrin.gif

Also, older doesn't mean the ship is worn out. Recently we have been going on RCI's smaller (and yes, older) ships. Frankly our cruise on the Grandeur in June ranks among the best cruises we've ever done. If someone didn't know the ship was 13 years old they would have thought it was much newer. Sometimes "wow" factor isn't missed because the crew, passenger demographics, and the ports all come together in perfect harmony.

The Independence is also one of the newest ones, albeit one of the largest too. The Enchantment is smaller, and was totally refurbished in 2005. She's a nice ship.

When do you plan on doing this cruise? I would suggest one of the "Freedom Class" ships if you want the latest and greatest. The soon coming Oasis Of The Seas is another class of it's own, and will the most prodigious ship in the world.

I am going on a Western Caribbean cruise on the Enchantment in about 3 1/2 weeks, and will try to post a review for you and everyone else when I get back. This is my second cruise, and my first cruise was also on a smaller, older ship (Majesty of the Seas back in October 2007).

I've cruised on both the RCCL Grandeur and the RCCL Enchantment afer her "stretch" in 2005. They are sister ships and equally "great" in terms of facilities, crew, feel and flavor! The Enchantment can give you a slightly bigger ship taste with a smaller ship flavor! In either ship the ambiance is fantastic and the pricing is great!! I would not hesitate to cruise again on either of them!!

thanks for all the responses. I will keep this all in mind.

To answer the question, I am looking for AUG 2010 cruise and more on the western cariabian front.

I was on the Grandeur in October and had a great time. Granted it was my first cruise, but I thought things were in good shape. Of course, if you go looking, I'm sure you could find things here and there. The stone heads in the solarium looked like they should be spouting water, but weren't. I always saw staff cleaning or polishing so I think they take good care of things.
