Leaving out of Los Angeles in May on the Mariner of the Seas.
Can anyone suggest a place to stay the night before?

Yes, I strongly suggest staying at the Crowne Plaza Hotel at 601 S Palos Verdes St. San Pedro, CA. We could see the Mariner from our hotel. HERE is a link to their site.
