going on first cruise sept (independance of the seas )as a smoker i wondered is there a duty free shop on board and do they sell cigarett,s and are they expensive on ship we are sailing for first 2day,s so need to know so i have enough or that i can buy them onboard thx
Make sure you check with RCI regarding their smoking policy. I'm not sure about the Independence, but generally speaking, if you are in a balcony stateroom, you can only smoke on your balcony with the doors closed, and on other designated smoking areas of the ship, whether it's a smoking lounge, etc. I haven't been on the Independence, so I don't know where their smoking areas are.
Under no circumstances is smoking allowed in any stateroom, except on the balcony.

They sell cigarettes on board, but I think carton purchases are held and delivered on the last day of the cruise. Individual packs can be bought at bars on the ship. From my observations they only have a few brands for sale. They might have different rules for European cruises and allow you to buy cartons of cigarettes at the onboard shop and take them with you. I really don't know for sure. If I still smoked I'd probably take along as many packs as I could and not worry about buying on the ship.
I think they are ridiculously inexpensive. They had a five carton box for 108 dollars. I'm not a smoker, but here in MA they are around 7 dollars a pack. I think you can only take 200 cigarttes per person home, so you almost have to smoke them on board if you buy them in bulk.
Mike52 says you can take them with you and not wait. Bear in mind that the onboard shops are not open all the time. They normally have to close when inside territorial waters. I also think there are EU rules to comply with.
