MCO (Orlando) is the main airport used for Port Canaveral. 45 miles away. MLB (Melbourne) is also used by some and it is 26 miles south of the port. MCO is more popular since there are more flight choices, although Delta has many going to MLB.
Wow 45 miles away is far. If I come in the day before do you have any recommendations on a place to stay? I would probably like to be closer to the docks if we come in ahead of time. Anything good to do there?
It is a ways but it is all expressway and is actually a pretty easy journey.
When cruising from Port Canaveral we like to stay at the Radisson Resort At The Port. Nice hotel, with a great pool, very good restaurant, and a free shuttle to the ship.
Don't take a cab. That is easily $150 one-way. There are plenty of shuttle services from the airport to the hotels on the day prior to a cruise. Some run on the hour. I'd google "shuttle from MCO to Cocoa Beach" and you'll see.
Since you are going a day early then you may want to look into renting a car (especially if you arrive early). You can rent with no drop off fee from Budget or Avis (or most car rental agency's) and drop right at the port. That will give you some freedom the night before and may actually be cheaper than the shuttle. The car agency will take you to the port. There are some fun things to do in Pt. Canaveral, you can visit Cape Canaveral. If you are sailing on Sun, then go to one of the restaurants along the port area and watch the ships leave Sat. night, etc. Visit Ron Jon's surf shop.
Anyway, just a thought, have fun.
