I posted this question on the Caribbean Port section of cruise-chat, but didn't get any answers that helped me choose. I'm hoping maybe someone else will see it here and help guide us.

We would like to book our Dolphin swim (directly thru Royal Caribbean) as soon as possible.
If you can offer any input, advise, suggestions, or thoughts on either of these two trips (companies), I would be so thankful......

In Cozumel.....

Dolphin Push Pull & Swim (Chankanaab)
or
Dolphin Swim and Ride (Dolphinaris)

Thanks so much!

These are both pretty much the same thing, just at different locations. I think the facilities at Dolphinaris are nicer than those at Chankanaab. Look here. That is probably why it costs $13 more per person.

Here is the Chankanaab facility.

Thanks, Dave, that's what I thought from looking at them too. It looks like Chankanaab has a pool for extra swimming if the kids would want to. But Dolphinaris really looks like a nice facility. Any idea if one is in a better location than the other?

Another thing I need to find out is if my husband can join us at a viewing only price. He doesn't enjoy swimming and does not want to do the dolphin swim. However, myself and our four children would like him to be with us (at least to watch).

I would book this myself through Dolphin Discovery. Chances are your group will be smaller and this is such a great park you will not want to leave when the "excursion" is over and will end up getting your own cab back anyway. You can snorkel there, there is a concession, lockers, clean rest room, botanical walk (photo ops), and nice but small beach, pool. It is really a nice place to spend your day. Cozumel is probably the safest you will be in the Caribbean for going on your own, Chankanaab a popular destination so cabs are plentiful, and it is minutes away from the ship's piers. Our group had 8 people in it, and two left early for scheduled tours. We had so much contact and time with the animals!

Also at the time we were there non swimmers were allowed on the piers to take photos and watch for a smaller fee. Well worth it to see your family do this--but if you can swing the price have husband go in also. It is the experience of a lifetime.

We did the Royal Swim with Dolphins at Chankanaab park, booked direct with www.dolphindiscovery.com and it was cheaper than going thru RCCL. It was an expensive day, but so thrilling. We got a taxi to the park -$10 and you need to allow a couple of hours there- one of our party just walked out onto the pier and took photos- no charge to him.I think the cruise line will charge each person that goes, regardless of whether you participate or just watch.
They take lots of pics and a DVD. The Royal Swim has only 8-10 people at a time so you get a lot of interaction with the animals, plus the foot push, dorsal fin pull and general playing with them. It was wonderful.

Make sure that you get permission to walk out onto the pier at Chankanaab. Even in Mexico they have liability issues. They issued me a life preserver and made me sign a waiver. It's a bunch of legal mumbo jumbo but a priceless photo op. Chankanaab's dolphins are very photogenic... actually, they are a bit of camera hams. I ALWAYS rent a car or jeep in Cozumel. I go where I want and spend as much time as I want. If you have never seen the southeastern coast of Cozumel, then you haven't seen the true essence of the island. You can complete the loop and stop in at San Gervasio to visit some Mayan ruins on your way back to the ship.
