We will be on our first cruise with RCI on Freedom of the Seas at the end of Nov. We have cruised with Carnival before and we were able to bring a bottle of wine and some bottled sodas on board in our luggage with no problems. From reading the cruise documents, it sounds like we won't be able to do this on RCI. Has anyone brought drinks on board? Any problems? -- Thanks!

Hello YYJValerie, welcome to Cruise-Chat! Usually they will confiscate any alcoholic beverages and return it at the end of the cruise. I never had a problem with carrying on water or soda.

Sonny summed it up pretty well. You need to inform the cruise staff that you are bringing alcohol onboard. They will temporarily confiscate it, and return it to you on the final night of the cruise. There may be a brief video about this when you first board on your stateroom TV in the form of a fictional game show. Here is a link to an FAQ about this on RCI's website.

Thanks ya'll! We'll leave the wine at home but pack some sodas. No big deal since we're not big drinkers anyway. Thanks again!

Another thing to do, is bring a travel mug so you can fill it with iced tea to bring to the pool, etc. You can also make some good iced coffees that way. I bring a giant mug and I bring some Crystal Light. Since the staff fills your ice bucket twice a day, you never have of ice in your cabin,

Bringing your own alcohol poses a problem for any business that is serving alcohol...it is all about accountability for the business...over-serving and all the problems that can be a result. We have a liquor license so we spend a great deal of time training our staff.

I know a couple of years ago, there were major problems with some of the cruises over-serving, so I applaud them for trying to control it.

Sorry I had an incomplete thought in my last post...should be: "Since the staff fill your ice bucket twice a day, you are never without ice in your cabin."

Do you think I NEED a vacation??!!!! Getting close to it!!
