My husband and I will be going on our first cruise on Splendour of the Seas on January 29th. We are both a little concerned about experiencing motion sickness. Can anyone recommend an over the counter medicine we should bring along, or should we visit our doctor for an RX? We've heard of one you stick behind your ear to prevent motion sickness. Any advice is very appreciated.

Motion sickness should not be a problem on the Splendour, but just in case, I have found taking ginger pills as a preventitive measure can be beneficial and can certainly do no harm. Also, dramamine has a non-drowsy formula that works well if you do start to get ill. Finally, many people swear by sea-bands. Although, I have never had need of them personally, I have friends who won't get on a ship without them.

jnj, unless you experiance motion sickness easily, you probably won't need anything.
I get sick just riding long distance in a car so I use the patch(Transdermoscope). It is RX and worth every penny it cost.Four patches cost about 34.00.You change them every 3 days.
Have a good cruise and come back to tell us all about it!!!

When I went on my very first cruise, in November (on board the Sovereign/Seas) I took with me the over-the-counter medicine Bonine. I had them just in case I got sea-sick. I did not. So, I did not use this medicine. When you are on a big cruise ship such as the Sovereign, (or in your case, the Splendor) the motion of the ocean is much less noticable than in a small boat.
My first cruise was on Carnival's Victory. It's a very large ship and a storm came in as we left Miami. Unfortunately, I waited too long to take medication and spent my first day in bed. A friend told me about Bonine, and I used it on our second cruise last year. It was truly put to the test. We took a ferry boat to Cozumel and IT WORKED! Six to seven people went past me that were extremely sick, and since I suffer from vertigo I expected to be sick, but the Bonine worked. You can get Bonine at Walgreens or Walmart, and it is very inexpensive.
My best friend always uses the SeaBands and has never had a problem, although she gets car sick easily. Fortunately, I haven't had a need for them as I would hate to return home with tan lines where my SeaBands were.
