Ok, another silly question...is it appropriate for me to carry on one of my formal dresses that shouldn't really be shoved into my garmet bag? Every article of clothing we are bringing should be fine in our luggage and garmet bag but this one dress would not make the travel. Would they allow me to carry it through and on the ship along with my carry on bag?

See, told you it was a silly one! But you have to love this forum to be able to put questions like this out there!

As long as it will go through the scanning machine, there should be no reason they wouldn't allow it.
