I've been watching airfares for Phiily to Fort Lauderdale for my cruise in January and am astounded by the prices. In just the last day, they have doubled to over $300 pp! Do you think this will reverse itself? Are there any knowledgable people out there with advice?
The airfares are all based on yield and demand and fluctuates constantly. Since you are looking at air for a trip 6 months from now - I would continue to keep checking the prices and the minute you see a good price - grab it - don't hestiate. Unless it is a holiday season, I have found that my best luck at getting a good price was about 3 months out (of course, there are NO guarantees - that has just been my experience).
You can also add your email address to one of the general web travel sites like Travelocity. You can tell them what city you normally fly from and where you are interested in going. They will email you when (if) there are sales to the places you want to fly to. You can then either purchase through them, from another site, or with the airlines directly but with the alerting service you will not necessarily have to keep checking the sites all the time.
Here is a great site I stumbled upon. http://www.Kayak.com. It appears to be the first PPC Travel Search site and offers to searcn over 500 different airlines. It was put together by folks from Travelocity, Expedia and HotWire and doesn't sell a thing. Simply searches. Try it and let us kow what you think of it.
