excurisions in the med....anyone done them?

just read the excursions in the med, available from RCI, they are a bit expensive!, as i have to pay for 2 adults and a child.
does anyone know if they were cheaper at the port with locals? or can we do our own thing easily?
we are going to barcelona/florence-pisa/sicily/civitvecchia/naples-capri/villefrance.

im going on the voyager, in november, have you been to any of those destinations above?

been to those ports this year in June with Celebrity, Did most ports on my own, Me and( she who must be obeyed)DID SOME RESEARCH and got trains and buses .Some people got hung up about seeing every thing ,and forget to enjoy themselves If you take organised tours you can spend up to 7 hours in very hot humid weather .Where as we went back to the ship when we liked

I have visited all of those ports at some time or another. Are you taking excursions at each port?

for civitavecchia, it is a lot cheaper and much simpler to just take a train into rome, dozens of tour guides will be walking around and children will be lot cheaper than adults (something RCCL overcharges you for!). The children will be free and Italy is famous for its luxury trains. When in Florence, just do your own thing and find a tour guide, I warn you the queues are huge. In naples, you simply must go and see Pompeii, I advise you to book the excursion as soon as possible when you board the ship as it is always hugely popular. If you take a tour bus in Barcelona, you will easily see all of the sights and your tickets will allow you to reboard any bus so you can just egt on and off with out a problem.I reccommend you getting a train to Monte carlo howvwer if not it is just as nice to have a look around the local town and sit on the beach.
