Sonny,
Your link is to a "press release" and you know how companies wiggle and squirm with those. On the other hand, the link that Dave has (just above yours) points to RCI's site which uses their "get out of jail free (we reserve the right, etc.) card" when it comes to fuel surcharges and/or taxes or anything for that matter.

If that article is correct and they're not applying the charge to bookings paid in full, then it looks like my husband and I dodged a bullet...we JUST paid for the rest of our 12-day cruise on the Explorer Thursday.

Cortney, I guess you got in under the wire! Let us know if you actually do or do not get charged for the fuel.

If we did get charged, I'd be throwing the biggest fit ever, let me tell you.

I checked the RCCL website and their official statement indicates they will not charge anyone who paid in full prior to the surcharge's implementation. So whether that's 24 days or 24 hours, it shouldn't matter...

Funny thing is, my husband told me he was going to pay the balance soon, but I didn't think he'd paid it yet. And I didn't even think to tell him to hurry up and do it, because the Carnival charge applied to even to bookings paid in full, so I just assumed RCCL would do the same. It's only a very, very happy coincidence that my husband paid Thursday. So when I saw this thread, and the part about paying in full, I was like !*&%^$&^@!!! But then my husband told me to calm the hell down because he'd already paid.

I just emailed our travel agent to confirm everything, just to make sure that if there are any shenanigans, I have time to throw my fit.

We are leaving in 2 weeks and I don't like it one bit. But, we are still going and I will just have to consider future bookings. RCI was already quite a bit higher than Princess was so I wonder where they have been putting the money? I will let you know if they tack on anything extra.

Thursday the 15th was the last day. I just called about my 14 night cruise in April and found out it's too late. One good thing is I won't be charged more than $70. So, Cort, you won't have to worry. Anyone out there that is thinking about paying your cruise in full, don't bother; it won't save you the fuel surcharge.

At least RCL and CCL have limited their fuel surcharge to $5/day/pp with a max of $70pp on a cruise. NCL is imposing a $7/day/pp for the first 2 passengers in a stateroom and $3/day/pp on each additional passenger in a stateroom. They have no Max! However, only new bookings are affected!

This is absurd, and it absolutley me off. Gas prices go up for EVERYONE!! Not just RC, or anyone else. My employer is not giving me more money because gas prices went up, why is RC allowed to charge us more AFTER we have reserved an itinerary??

I'm absolutley fuming over this! They cannot add this to an existing itinerary.

How do I know this is the only "add on" to my itinerary? How do I know they wont charge us AGAIN, because fuel prices went up AGAIN??

Point is, I have an existing itinerary for a cruise next year that I, MYSELF, and my friend, AGREED to pay a certain amount of money. We didn't agree for any extras! RC cannot come back to us, and say "oh, by the way, the price of gas went up, and you have to pay us more for it"

Whats next? The electric bill? Or how about the water bill? How about a surcharge for that too?

I'm fuming!
