What is the best way to upgrade a cabin?

I'm sailing on April 24 on Mariner JS cabin but would like to upgrade my cabin. However there are no cabins are currently available for 4. RCI told me that only my travel agent can call and make any changes not me. Did anyone had success upgrading their cabins this close to departure? What are the chances upgrading a cabin at the dock? How about wheelchair accessible cabins? Any feedback would be helpful. thx.

If there are cabins available, you can usually negotiate an upgrade right after boarding, but be advised that most of the ships are sailing full at this time.

Tom, thanks for the Link. It is very comprehensive peeking into "free" upgrades (loved your personal page too). I'm not a customer looking for free upgrades, willing to pay for an upgrade that is currently not available so I'm sure RCI would like me even more ;&gt. I would imagine that they would rather sell rooms then upgrading people into them. Is there a something like "waitlist" that I can get on? What cruise ships do if no one request wheelchair accessible rooms? At what point they release them to general public?

There are waitlists for unavailable cabin categories, but this type of request is usually handled through your travel agent and made before final payment. In your case, the biggest obstacle you have in getting an upgrade is what appears to be your need for a cabin for 4. These are usually sold out first and are in limited supply.

If there are upgrade cabins r suites availale at sailing, they will often be offered as a prize at Bingo.
