buying liquor on shore

Does anybody have any pointers for a first time cruiser? We were wondering if you can purchase alcohol off shore and then bring it on board. It concerns me on packing it in my suitcase to take back home. I would hate for it to break and ruin all my clothes.

We are going on the Enchantment. Any thoughts, concerns or great things to share?

When you buy it at ports, they usually make you give it to a porter when you return to the ship. They return it the final night of the cruise. When they do they urge you to pack it securely, we always pack it in a carry-on, as you will have to put all 'checked' luggage outside your cabin that night. They do not promise that the liquor will remain in checked luggage, so putting it in your carry-on bag is the only safe place.

Our response to anyone who questions liquor is that you're spending thousands on a cruise, to take/bring back liquor to save $10-20 bottle is not what we choose to do. You also have to think about breakage, as well as the airlines cracking down on extra weight/size luggage. [img]/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif[/img]

ok like I said before my girlfriend and I are like 26, and like any young drinker we like to get tanked at a reasonable price. We dont like paying high prices for a jack and coke. So we packed SMALLER bottles of liquor on the ship and coke and brought them on. Also at port we buy smaller bottles and put them in our back pocket. We did buy a huge bottle of Kahlua and gave it to the steward and kept a small bottle of vodka and rum in our back pockets. They never said "Is that all the liqour you have or is there more in your pants!?" Besides that its cheaper and lasts longer. Yes with airfare we paid 2500. but we dont want to spend an additional 300+ (total for 7 days) for a drink card every day when we can get 4 bottles for 20 buxs.
