Hi everyone . I'm thinking of surprising my wife with a cruise for her 60th birthday . Since her B'day is in October , I would be cruising in the fall . How is the Caribbean as far as hurricanes , etc. We have cruised three other times but mostly early spring and summer.
Any input would be helpful .
Our last cruise was the last week of October in the Eastern Caribbean. The weather was absolutely perfect . . . It is technically still hurricane season, however, if a hurricane threatens, your ship's captain will avoid the bad weather. Our 2009 Caribbean cruise will be the first week of November. We've also cruised this time year in the Pacific - first time we were one week behind a hurricane, the last time we were just ahead of one.
You take your chances, but we've never had a problem. Just make sure to get insurance. My hubby's b-day in October 20th, so we've done many cruises around that time. Sounds like a great birthday present to me.
Penny - you must have a great husband - - my birthday is the 21st ~ ~ and I know I'm great... We're going for my husband's BD this year - Nov 7... a week later than we're used to, but can't think there will be that much difference.
Great way to celebrate a milestone birthday. As mentioned it is still hurricane season. The heaviest part of the season tends to be mid August to end of September. I've gone on many cruises the beginning of October with no problem, and a couple the beginning of October where we had to switch the itinerary in reverse and had no problem. Later October to November should be pretty good.
