Luggage question

We will be cruising in July, and are flying in the day before sailing. This is the first time we will be bringing our own luggage to the ship. How does check-in work in this instance?

I'm not sure I understand the question. How did you get luggage to the ship for previous sailings? If you're coming in the day before I assume you have a hotel booked. You simply take you luggage to the pier at check-in and the Porters will tag it and you'll get in the check-in line as they wheel your luggage away. It'll be outside your cabin that evening. So don't leave valuables in checked luggage. Keep laptop, jewelry, cameras and I-Pods in carry-ons.

If I understand the question, then TrvlPro is right. You just have to make sure you put the tag on the luggage (bag tags should come with your documents) and there will be a porter at the port to take your checked luggage. As TrvlPro stated, don't leave valuables in your checked luggage. Your luggage will be delivered to your stateroom by about 7:30 pm or so at the latest on the day that you set sail.

I guess I wasn't thinking!! I was incorrectly thinking that the airline automatically delivered the luggage to the ship, as we booked air w/ cruise line last time--what a nimrod I am! It's only been 5 yrs since prev. cruise-you'd think it was 25!! I guess we don't escape the worry of our luggage not getting to our room in a timely manner (I was thinking we'd carry it directly to our rooms!!) Luckily we have 2nd seating this time, so dinner wear won't be an issue (hopefully)

Michael, RCCL will not be sending any packet with most bookings now. There may be exceptions but all my bookings are now eDocs. No package, no bag tags, nothing but a "Set Sail Pass" you print right from your home printer. The Porters at the pier now handle the bag tags for you when you arrive. There may be a way of some agencies getting the packets I don't know. But most agencies and even direct bookings are eDocs today with almost every cruiseline (Holland is the primary exception along with Cunard and 6 star lines). With MSC there aren't even eDocs now. They've gone to a system that is completely doccument free. It's called "Pier Pick Up" or "Ticketless Manifest". You're in their system, that's it. No docs of any kind, just a confirmation #.

Oh, sorry about that. Thanks TrvlPro for clearing that up. This must have been a recent change, as I booked my cruise in July or August of last year and sailed in October on the Majesty.
