If you're talking about Royal Caribbean specifically, the cruise rate itself is the same whether or not you have 8 cabins in your group. The difference is that they will give you one free cruise berth (not including taxes) for every 8 cabins you fill with at least 2 people in each cabin. They'll also make sure you're all sitting in the same area of the dining room, plus other group perks.
