I've been told that they are searching for alcohol when initally going on board but what about soda/water? I've been on numerous carnival cruises in the past and have carried cases of soda and water with no problem or concern by cruise staff. I wonder if this is still the case and if Royal Caribbean has similar rules? anyone experience this? I'm planning a trip out of San Juan in which I will be there 4 days in advance. I was planning on buying water bottles and soda on the island to bring on the ship with me.

Welcome to cruise-chat. Glad to have you aboard!

RCI has no problems with passengers bringing soda and water aboard - in reasonable amounts of course.

Are you sure about this? I spoke to a few others who were told they couldn't bring soda/water onboard? Maybe this is a new rule?

I am sure. Here is the list of items they don't allow. Also look here . We've brought sodas and bottled water aboard RCI ships and all security did was make sure they were not alcohol.

As mentioned the key word is "reasonable" amount. One 12pack is reasonable. Two cases is not.

We took a 12 pack of soda and some bottle water on our RCI cruise last month out of San Juan with no problems from RCI.

Yep, I'm a Pepsi gal, and RCI is Coke country so I bring some aboard, no problem.
