Why can't we ask solo cruisers of the same *** to share a cabin. I am a widow and have not cruised since my husband died because I have to pay such a high price for a single cabin

A determination was made that this creates a possible liability for the owner of this forum. Bad things can happen when people agree to share something with who is in essence a stranger. If someone solicits a cabin mate here and later they find something was stolen from them during the cruise - or something worse - then the lawyers come looking for everyone and anyone who played a role.

Megs, there used to be many years ago, some cruise lines that would book singles of the same *** to share a cabin. I don't know if they still do or not. You could ask your travel agent or call the cruise lines to see. Some lines don't charge a full 200% for single rates, either. Dave is spot on about why you can't do it on this forum.

perhaps you could try a social networking site like facebook or classmates.
Maybe you could reconnect with a friend who would be willing to go with you.
That way it wouldn't be a complete stranger.

Megs, I am sure it is hard to think of cruising solo. But I cruised solo at least a dozen times, and for me, it was a great get-a-way. I have a stressful job, and escaping to a cruise is such a joy. I work with a great agent and as a solo I had greater flexibility. Most cruises need to be paid 60-90 days ahead, and at that time discounts are to be had !! The premium almost disappeared in some cases...

The best part was all the great people I met along the way, folks tend to "adopt" solo cruisers, if you attend a couple of events that appeal to you, you are likely to find others there of like mind. It has always been my opinion that even on ships now with 2000+ passengers, I see and talk to the same 20-30 people all the time, because we have likes and dislikes in common, schedules (daytime or nighttime people).

I like poormom's idea of using the social networking sites, depending on the cruise line you choose, some still have gentlemen who are there to dance with ladies, if that is your thing. It can be done Megs !

Poormom posted what I was going to suggest. These days you really have to be careful about meeting strangers on the internet.

I have done a lot of solo cruises and kind of prefer that. There are sites to match you up but I would not want to be stuck with someone I didn't know pretty well.
