I'm going on my first cruise next month, travelling along on the Carnival Paradise (Nov. 3). I have a few questions and am also wondering if anyone has tips for a solo female traveller.

If I'm seated with all couples or families, how easy is it to get a change of tables?

Should I stick to the official excursions for safety?

Any spots or activities on board I should try for meeting other solo travellers?

Is the gym well equipped?

Any insights appreciated.

Thanks.

We're a couple and I can't speak speciacally for the Paradise, but in general, if you are no satisfied with a tablemate, just asked to be changed. It they can accomodate you, they will. As far as going on your own, I would say no. We've had situations on more than 1 occasion that we weren't even safe with a couple. We always take a ship shore excursion. The only place that I would do something on your own would be Key West, if you're going there. Have fun!

Carnival is usually very good at placing solo travelers with other singles for dining, families with families, etc. Your first line of action should be to have your travel agent request specific seating before the cruise. If, however, you find you are not happy with your seating once on board - speak to the maitre'd and explain your situation. If at all possible, your request will be honored.

Check out Nancy's page at cruisereviews.com. There is an article "Solo at Sea: Seeking Others in the Same Boat" that addresses how and where to meet other singles onboard. (I really have used the suggestions -and they work!)

Enjoy your trip - Nancy
