A port of call paradise, Castaway Cay Port is the perfect family getaway. Disney cruise ships dock here and the fun begins! Once known as Gorda Cay, this tiny 3.1 mile by 2.2 mile island is part of the Abaco Islands in the northern Bahamas and was purchased and developed by the Disney Corporation. Of the total 1,000 acres that make up the island, only 55 acres have been developed; the remainder is left to its wild, natural state. Approximately 40 Disney employees live on the island full-time. Premium family leisure with the signature Disney hospitality make this an unforgettable family vacation. With a specially-dredged port, ships pull right in to the dock for passenger debarkation - no tendering required. Just beside the dock, note the antiquated-looking ship 'Flying Dutchman'; the very one used in all the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' movies. Some beach scenes from the movie 'Splash' were also filmed here. Visitors will notice that all the buildings are designed to look as if castaways built them after a shipwreck, following the castaway theme of this resort/park. There is even a post office here, using its own unique Disney/Castaway Cay postmark. Disney Character Greetings, along with a dance party featuring Lilo and Stitch, will delight guests of all ages. Be sure to grab the activities schedule from your stateroom for a comprehensive guide to everything the island has to offer.
Be sure to visit the gift shop for souvenirs of the island and everything Disney. Employees will even arrange to have your purchases delivered to your stateroom.
