Dover Port has become one of the busiest ports in England. The port has state-of-the-art facilities which can serve 16 million passengers and 2.5 million cars. Dover Port is the closest point to Continental Europe because it’s just 21 miles from the French Port of Calais. Ferries run every day to Calais and Dunkirk in France, and Ostend in Belgium. Dover has plenty of wonderful things to offer and one of its prides is the summer festival. Things to See

Since Dover is one of the busiest ports in England, there are areas which have been preserved and developed for the tourists. One of the places to go to is the Dover Castle or the “Key to England” which is 2,000 years old. Also, the Battle of Britain Memorial is worth a visit, a place dedicated to the men who fought and died for Britain. Also, it is best to wait for the third week of August for the Port of Dover Summer Festival. This celebration has been going on for 30 years. Other places to go to are Cowgate Nature Reserve, Kearsney Abbey, Russel Gardens, St. Edmund’s Chapel and many others.

Restaurants and Bars

There are lots of eateries within Dover. Some are just near the tourist spots or just near the harbor. One of the highly recommended restaurants is Hemming’s Broken Plate in Main Street. It has received numerous recommendations by tourists. Also, if you want a wonderful view of the harbor, dine at The Beach House Restaurant and taste the best of the local cuisine. If you want burgers and fries, especially when you have kids traveling with you, Willie’s offers the best burger in town. Willie’s also has ice cream and goodies for your kids and for those adults who just love sweets. There are Asian restaurants and other international cuisines within the area that you can try.
