Venice Port FAQ

Venice Port in Italy is one of the busiest in the Mediterranean. Nearly 700,000 passengers and 500 cruise ships depart and dock in this port every year. The Venice Cruise Terminal is located close to the causeway linking Venice to mainland Italy.

There are two main areas in the Venice Port- the San Basilio and the Marittima basin which handles large ships that dock in the port.

3 - What's the Cruise Port Parking Like?

The parking lot in Venice Pork is managed by the Venezia Terminal Passegeri SPA, and has special rates for passengers of a Venice Port cruise line. Tourists are advised to reserve parking space through phone, fax, or by going to www.vtp.it.

4 - How do You get to the Cruise Port?

From the airport, Marittima is about 15 minutes away by cab. Passengers may also take an airport bus to Piazzale Roma, and then take a shuttle to the Marittima. It can also be reached by a water taxi, a scenic way of transport although much more expensive.

 San Basilio is 20 minutes away by taxi from the airport.

 5 - What Cruise Lines use the Port?

Some of the many cruise lines that use the Venice Port are Carnival Cruise Lines, Celebrity Cruise Lines, Costa Mediterranean Cruises, Silversea Cruises, Holland America Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean, and Oceania Cruises.

The Marco Polo Airport is about 5 miles from the Venice Port.

 7 - What Attractions are Near the Cruise Port?

The Basilica of San Marco is one of the most famous landmarks in the city. Located right at the heart of Venice, this church demonstrates the Byzantium heritage of the region. The Gran Central has stunning views of gothic structures and is best enjoyed on a boat ride. Tourists should also try a gondola ride which is considered a romantic way of exploring the city. The Piazzale Roma is the only part of Venice that is open to motor vehicles, and is dotted with shops for dining and shopping.

 8 - What Hotels are Near the Cruise Port?

Some of the hotels that are close to San Basilio are Hotel Pausania and Hotel La Calcino, both 3-star accommodations offering good amenities and services. The Hotel Pausania is located in a fourteenth century gothic structure, close to the Campo San Barnaba. The hotel offers single, double, triple, and quadruple accommodations. The Hotel La Calcina, on the other hand, overlooks the Giudecca Canal.

Hotels near Marittima are Hotel Santa Chiara, Hotel Antiche Figura, and Hotel Olimpia.

9 - What Restaurants and Shops are Near the Cruise Port?

Tourists in Venice should check out Ristorante Quadri for its excellent international cuisine; Trattoria alla Rivetta for their seafood dishes, and Al Covo for its Venetian specialties.

Around the San Marco Square are shops and stalls, while the designer boutiques are plenty in Accademia.

10 - Are Ships Docked at the Port, or are Passengers Ferried from the Port to the Ship?

Ships dock at the Venice Port via Marittimi and San Basilio basins.
