Santa Cruz, Tenerife Port Guide

On the north side of Tenerife in the Canary Islands, is Santa Cruz Tenerife Port. It's the capital of the island. Santa Cruz Tenerife port of call is located on a natural bay. The breathtaking Anaga Mountains are closeby. Beautifully landscaped areas and wide streets with shops and restaurants surround the port. Visitors will find sandy beaches, museums, theater, restaurants, and interesting shops. The Santa Cruz Tenerife cruise terminal is a half mile outside of town.

Shopping

The local market sells flowers and fresh produce. There are two department stores and shopping centers on the island. Most of the tourists begin at the Plaza de Espana near the Santa Cruz Tenerife cruise terminal. To find the best bargains, tourists should visit the Plaza de la Candelaria, the Plaza de Espana, Villalba Hervas, San Jose, and Bethencourt Alfonso streets.

Things to See

Santa Cruz Tenerife is a festive vacation destination and special events are in progress all year long. If you can't make it to the carnival in Rio de Janiero, the carnival in Santa Cruz is one of the most elaborate you'll ever experience. Carnivals are referred to as "international festivities," and although events take place all over the island, the most elaborate are in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Partygoers in elaborate costumes take part in the festivities. Tenerife celebrates numerous holidays and festivals during the year. Holidays are Epiphany (The Feast of the Three Wise Men), February/March Carnival, The Cross Day, Canary Islands Day, Our Lady of Carmen, Apostle Santiago, Assumption Day of Hispanism, All Saints Day, Constitutional Day, Immaculate Conception Day, Christmas, and New Year's.

Annual events include the Music Festival of the Canary Islands in June, the Opera Season in October through December, and the Sabandeno Folk Music Festival in September. The Teide National Park includes a volcanic crater and Mount Teide, the highest mountain in Spain.

Tenerife has perfect beach weather with sunny days and warm temperatures nearly all year long. Some of the best beaches are Playa Jardim, El Bullullo, Los Cristianos, Playa San Marcos, and Playa De Las Teresitas.

Families visiting Tenerife can visit the Aquapark which has a dolphin show, dolphin lake, all kinds of water rides, restaurants and souvenir shops. The park is located 5 minutes from Los Cristianos.

Restaurants and Bars

Local Canary Islands style cuisine, Spanish food, seafood, and fast food are the most popular on the island. A restaurant serving regional dishes with one of the most extensive wine cellars in the area is El Coto de Antonio. Fusion-style, Mexican, and Italian food is served at Amaranto. La Tasca De La Bodega serves Mediterranean cuisine. A hotel restaurant in the middle of beautiful gardens is Los Menceyes. El Covacho de Pedro serves Spanish dishes. Da Canio 3 features Italian style food. Vegetarians can find delicious veggie dishes, tapas, and quesos at Ramon. Basque-style food is the featured cuisine at La Cazuela. Pucheros and wrinkle potatoes and fish are two dishes commonly served at local restaurants.

Several restaurants and bars are at The Costa del Silencio. Los Cristianos has numerous restaurants, sports bars, and nightclubs with live music. Some of the most popular night spots are Shires Pub, Goodfellas, Chicago's Bar and Restaurant, The heritage, and Aristocats. Veronica's Strip in Las Americas, has Irish and English pubs, cocktail bars,a and sports bars.
