Cristobal Port Guide

Cristobal Cruise Port is considered one of the best ports in the Caribbean region. At Limon Bay’s entrance, the city of Cristobal, Panama is situated. The Panama Canal’s eastern entrance may be seen from here. Ships entering the bay may continue to the Panama Canal and on to Gatun Lake.

The Cristobal port is just kilometers away from Manzanillo International Terminal and Colon Container Terminal located in Coco Solo. The Cristobal cruise terminal provides modern port facilities.

The Cristobal port of call experiences dry weather from January up to March (although occasionally heavy rains still occur). The period from April to December is the wettest season. Staying in Cristobal is worthwhile since there is an abundance of new and interesting places to see and discover.

Shopping

Enjoy shopping at the Cruise Terminal’s Flea Market. It is a very popular shopping destination in Cristobal. The market offers numerous authentic products that you can bring home as souvenirs. Also, as you dock and before going to your hotel, you can stop at the Cristobal Cruise Terminal for unique clothing, special handicrafts, beautiful silver jewelry, great perfumes, amusing woodcarvings and wonderful hand woven basilicas. Cuna Indian molas are very good souvenirs as well. Molas are colorful fabric designs which can be used for making distinct framed pictures. These local products are usually made by the Indian groups residing in Panama.

Things to See

Your tour in the Port of Cristobal would not be complete without visiting the main attraction of this port city; the Panama Canal. A trip to the Gatun locks is an enjoyable and memorable canal experience. The Gatun Lake is famous for kayaking and Peacock Bass fishing. You can participate in these activities or just spend your time relaxing at the beautiful beach.

 

If you want a hiking adventure, you can visit the famous Gamboa Aerial Tram. You can also try a train ride to the Port of Balboa from the Port of Cristobal. This , allows you to see beautiful views of Cristobal’s rainforests and canals.

Restaurants and Bars

A short drive into the town will bring you to a place where local dishes are served. Most restaurant and bars are located in Colon where you can find Shelter Bay Restaurant and Bar within the Marina complex. There is a large variety of good food, good service and pleasant ambience from one restaurant to another. Tourists usually enjoy exploring the seasoned vegetables and meats offered in Cristobal. Panama’s famous dish is known as Sancocho; a dish served with chicken, healthy avocado stew, and yucca. Visitors will also have an abundance of fresh tropical fruits as well as the local chicken and  dish known as arroz con pollo.

Most restaurants in Cristobal offer a variety of seafood such as ceviche, red snapper, and sea bass. Grand Café which is also known as the “Arab Restaurant”, Panaderia Mediterranea, and Café Mediterranea are also within the vicinity.
