Veendam Cruise Ship

The Veendam cruise ship remains one of Holland America Lines’ most traditional and classic ships. The Veendam ship is updated routinely. Its stylish design merged with its high-tech facilities made the ship a trendsetter in its recent transformation in 2009. Having a trip on this 57,092-ton ship is truly a unique experience. With 1,350 passengers on board, the Veendam cruise just gets better and better. Veendam reviews show that the services offered in the ship add value to your vacation.

The main dining area offers the "As You Wish" dining program which is characteristic of Holland America cruise ships. Meaning passengers have a choice of having pre-reserved seats at times of dining, or open-seating option where you can come and eat at a designated time. This preference is selected during the booking phase. Apart from the main dining room other options are available.

  • The Rotterdam Dining Room offers five course meals which includes vegetarian and continental cuisine options.
  • Pinnacle Grill requires reservations, but they have the most elegant dining experience available. Their wine selection is considered the best by wine spectators.
  • Canaletto Restaurant is for those who desire having Italian cuisine. This is one of the newly added dining areas when they renovated.
  • Other dining areas are the Slice Pizza Parlor, Lido Restaurant, Terrace Grill, and many others.

Entertainment and Nightlife

The ship’s lounge was transformed to the new Showroom at Sea. The shows presented are more intimate, high-quality productions. Magicians, comedians, and the Veendam Orchestra, are some of the performances staged in the area. Another entertainment location is in Deck 8. There is a casino and bar found in this ship’s section. The casino offers Three-card poker, Stud poker and 97 slot machines.

The newest bar in 2009 is Mix. This is considered the primary bar area. Three bars are part of Mix: Champagne Bar, Spirit & Ales bar, and Martini Bar. The new bar is very modern and hip, yet even the traditional-minded guests seem happy with the update.

The 2009 update on the Veendam ship added another selection to choose from in the form of cabins. New décor, soft goods, and carpeting have been added to give a more contemporary atmosphere. There are 138 cabins available inside. Each are comfortable and full of space, and have plenty of drawer storage. The staterooms and suites have cotton bed linens, Flat panel TVs, and DVD players. Suites enjoy a personalized stationary and a mini bar. Private use of the Neptune Lounge and its concierge service are available for Penthouse Verandah and Deluxe Verandah.

Holland America Lines’ newly created programs are being implemented by Veendam. One of these programs is the Culinary Arts Center which have Master Chefs or culinary experts present cooking lessons for passengers. The Greenhouse Spa offers standard treatments and massages, facials and the like. They also have the Ionithermie Cellulite Reduction Program which can help you lose some inches. Teeth whitening can also be done onboard. The spa offers almost all beauty needs passengers would have. Treadmills and stationary bikes are some of the equipment inside the gym. Several workout stations can be found here.

Basketball and tennis courts are located on deck 12. These activities are only available after lunch hours due to the sound echoing to the Lido Restaurant.

Onboard Fees

Eleven dollars per person is automatically added to a passenger’s account. This is distributed among the servers and other service personnel. These fees, however, can be adjusted through the front desk. For bar bills, 15% gratuity is added to the amount.
