The Volendam is the sister ship to the Zaandam. She is part of the popular Statendam class of ships. A bright, floral theme sets off the decor on the ship, several historical artifacts are on display, and attractive floral vases are used. A pipe organ is even found in the atrium. Passengers will be pleased with the level of service given by well-trained staff.

The Rotterdam Dining Room offers traditional service and has very nicely decorated. The meals are multi-course, and special dietary needs are accomodated. The wine list includes traditional California favorites as well as some from Washington State. An alternative restaurant called the Pinnacle Grill is available. The Pinnacle specializes in select cuts of steak and Seattle-style seafood.
The Lido buffet offers waiter service in addition to its self-serve food stations. Various ethnic dishes are offered here.
Entertainment and Nightlife
The ship's theater specializes in Broadway-style productions. The Crows Nest is a popular dancing spot at night. Enjoy great sea views here by day. The Wajang Theater shows recent feature films, and even offers fresh popcorn.
The Explorer's Lounge features music by a harpist and a piano player. The Ocean Bar is the main gathering place for pre-dinner cocktails. A jazz quartet performs here. The Casino Bar is where sports fans head to so they can watch their favorite games.
The staterooms are fairly spacious, with attractive decor. Basic amenities in all cabins include TV's, safes, hair dryers and phones. A fruit basket is delivered to the room when passengers first arrive.
Balcony cabins are especially spacious. The balconies offer a nice place to enjoy the fresh air. The suites offer access to a private lounge, as well as increased space.
The pool has a roof that can be raised in the event of bad weather. Swimmers never have to miss a day because of rain.
The jogging track lets passengers continue their regular jogging. An onboard gym has a number of machines that include stairsteppers, treadmills, rowing machines and exercise bikes. Aerobics classes are offered. Steam and sauna rooms help relax those tired muscles.
The library offers extra-comfortable seating, making it a great relaxation spot. A good selection of books, particuarly travel-related, are found here. An Internet center lets passengers stay connected. Various enrichment classes are available.
A $10 daily fee is added for each passenger. Beverage gratuity is 15 percent.
Taking the Kids
The main dining room has a kids' menu to make mealtimes easier. Private babysitting is available for an hourly fee, giving parents a bit of a break.
Scheduled activities are offered from ages 5 to 17. Experience youth counselors lead kids in games, direct craft activities, and organize special theme parties.
