The ride from the coast inland to the tubing jumping off point climbs through lovely, rural, lush landscape and rain forest, bamboo abounding. Once at the dock, you receive a full safety briefing, then grab your paddles and mount your colorful, specially designed tubes for the first half of your ride through the Layou’s deep, shaded gorges.

Your helpful guides, always nearby, allow you to explore and experience the Layou to your heart’s content, as well as stop and swim for a bit at one of the many picturesque beaches on this leg of the trip, if the spirit moves you. Banana trees and coconuts palms provide shade along the way.

After nearly an hour aboard your tube, you’ll switch to two-person sit-on-top kayaks, again with a full safety and technique briefing, and continue down the Layou aboard these sleek, agile watercraft. Even if you’ve never kayaked before, you’ll get the hang of it quickly.

At your final destination, on the Caribbean shore of Dominica’s west coast, there’s the option of swimming at the expansive beach or you can just relax and enjoy refreshing fruit, juices and water.
