Your trip begins at Betty's Hope Sugar Estate. One of the oldest sugar plantations, Betty's Hope dates all the way back to 1651. Restoration begain in 1990, making this plantations one of the few where one of the two sugar mill towers has been fully restored - complete with sails.

The next stop is Devil's Bridge, a natural area that is a remarkable example of sea-water erosion. When a soft part of limestone was eroded by the Atlantic Ocean, a bridge was geologically created. During the days of slavery, it was said that slaves came here to commit suicide, the "devil" having got into them. Devil or not, though, the foaming breakers below and the nearby natural blow hole that periodically sends out a vertical spray of seawater and air are an impressive sight.

Now you are on to Half Moon Bay, a pristine beach halfway up the east coast of Antigua that, although popular, is often deserted on weekdays. It is rated one of the most beautiful in the world, from it's interesting crescent shape to the vaguely pink hue of its sand. Take a break from your tour for a quick swim in the waters, which are calm due to a reef system at the mouth of the bay. Enjoy an island beer or local fruit drink at the small restaurant near the beach before heading back into St. John's.
