Martinique
WALKING TOUR OF HISTORIC FORT DE FRANCE
$23 Per Person
This interesting tour promises to take you to all of the highlights of
sophisticated Fort de France, Martinique's capital. Your walking tour
begins near the statue of Pierre Belain d'Esnambuc, who represents the
first French colonizer of the country. As you cross La Savanne Park, you
will get an education on the splendid tropical landscaping there. Your
guide, who speaks with that lovely French accent, will tell you the
stories behind the War Memorial, the Empress Josephine Statue, the
Schoelcher Library, the St. Louis Cathedral and more. The Saint Louis
Fort, one of the first monuments in the capital, is also part of your
route.
Not only are the tales enjoyable, but the buildings are so beautiful you
will think you are in the middle of a sophisticated European city rather
than an island. You'll also learn about tropical plants while strolling
through the park. You will savor your stop at a Martinican juice shop
for a drink. (Of course, I would be wandering into one of those yummy
French bakeries!) Your tour will end at the famous Roger Albert duty
free shop, a perfect stop to find French perfume at dutyfree prices,
located on Victor Hugo Street.
