RAINFOREST HIKE
$69 Per Person and A Minimum of 6 People

Discover the enchanting world of our mountain rainforest on a moderate hiking adventure which will also include visits to a beautiful and mysterious Carib Indian sacred site and an abandoned colonial sugar mill, as well. You will also stop at the Caribelle Batik Factory and the Gardens at Romney Manor.

First, we make a 45 minute detour on the way to the mountain rainforest to explore a hidden canyon along our Caribbean coast. Our short hike into this coastal canyon's stunning 100-foot deep walls, reveals a rich collection of Carib Indian rock drawings from pre-colonial times, that still remain a mystery to interpreters today. Next, on our tour, a short drive takes us further along our Caribbean coast to hike the protected rainforest sanctuary at Wingfield Estate.

Here we follow a giant loop trail, for a period of one to two hours, using walking sticks as we go and having frequent stops for interpretation and viewing of wildlife, along the way. Initially the group follows the banks of the Wingfield River and then goes back to the "base camp", the site of an old sugar mill at the edge of the rainforest, along an adjacent ridge to complete the two-hour loop trail. These trails are very comfortable and free of mosquitoes; poisonous vegetation and snakes are not to be found!

In the cool shade of this pre-Columbian Rainforest Sanctuary it is possible to see Vervet Monkeys, hummingbirds, giant river crayfish and much more. This is a photographers dream! Your senses will never be the same again!

A stop at the breathtaking gardens and studio of the Romney Manor and home of Caribelle Batik, you will have the opportunity to select souvenirs and gifts unique to St. Kitts and directly from the source. You will be able to observe the resist-dye process of batik and also roam one of the most beautiful gardens in the Caribbean - (and the view itself left ME breathless!)

At tour's end, we celebrate with an island picnic at the site of an old colonial sugar mill, followed by a brief description into the production of crystallized sugar here during the colonial times. This promises to be the the Ultimate Island Safari, an experience you won't forget!
