St. Lucia
GROS
PITON NATURE TRAIL
$152 Per Person
The panoramic vistas that surround you as you
make your way out of the bustle of Castries and along the southwest
coastline will give you an indication of the type of terrain that you
will encounter on your hike. It has always reminded me of the landscape
of most European countries, with rolling hills densely covered in
growth, and protruding rock formations. The land is dotted with villages
and the roads seem to encircle the hills.
You will arrive at the base of the Gros Piton trail in Soufriere, a
lovely fishing village. As you climb, tropical birds flutter along the
way. You will see a vast difference in vegetation as you descent the
peak. You will also come across caves, tunnels, rock shelters, camps,
signal stations, lookouts, and more brigand sites often found on the
Caribbean islands hidden away.
The first half of the trail is moderate and can be enjoyed by everyone.
The second half involves a steep descent of the Piton summit and is
intended for the adventurous hiker. Those who choose to stay back may do
so.
Lunch will follow the hike before returning to your starting location.
