EAGLE PRESERVE RAFT TRIP
ON WILDLIFE QUEST
$141 Per Person
This tour will let you step into adventure with a scenic raft trip on the
braided channels of glacier-fed rivers which flow through the "heart" of
the world famous Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve near Haines. This flat-water
trip is the perfect soft adventure for a family. Its owner was personally
involved with the creation of the Preserve and pioneered this tour in the
late 70s.
Your adventure begins and ends with a scenic 35-minute fast ferry cruise
to Haines along the picturesque cliffs, waterfalls, and timbered
mountainsides of Lynn Fjord. A van will shuttle you to and from the raft
staging areas near the Haines Highway.
The preserve encompasses 48,000 acres of some of Alaska's most spectacular
scenery and it is dedicated to preserving the habitat of the largest
concentration of bald eagles in the world. During the fall and early
winter months, an average number of 3,500 eagles congregate in a
concentrated area in the heart of the preserve to feed on the thousands of
spawning salmon available to them in this rich ecosystem. In the summer
months a substantial resident population of eagles remain and our rafts
will quietly float through the areas where you are most likely to view
these magnificent birds. You can also expect to view the scenic grandeur
of glacier-laden peaks rising 7,000 feet directly from the river valley
and occasionally we will spot bears, wolves or moose along the riverbanks.
Because of the expertise of the guides and the breathtaking views,
children as well as seniors will appreciate this vision of Alaska.
Several different locations are used for raft put-in sites. The site is
determined by water levels and the availability of wildlife. Time on the
river will vary depending on the put-in site.
